Running the TrueSight Capacity Optimization Gateway Server Manager run with a VIS interval of less than 2 minutes is not a tested or supported configuration of the product. It is possible running with a VIS interval of 1 minute could cause unexpected data reporting problems - especially in Visualizer. Running with a Visualizer interval of less than 2 minutes is not officially supported by any current release of the Perform product.

By design Manager restricts the smallest Visualizer interval to 2 minutes. This is done because the Visualizer graphics package is known to have graphics errors in some instances when data is processed with a 1 minute interval. The most common Visualizer graph problems with 1 minute intervals are:

  • There are so many data points on a 24 hour graph that the lines merge together resulting in the graph area being all black
  • In Hierarchy charts some of the intervals will appear to 'overlap' causing a checkerboard pattern rather than a continuous data view
When importing data into TrueSight Capacity Optimization (TSCO) vis the TSCO Gateway Server VIS parser ETL the default behavior of the product will be to summarize the 1 minute data points into 5 minute data points (since the minimum interval supported by the DETAIL summarization level is 5 minutes).  The data could be made available in TSCO through the RAW summary level with a modification to the ETL configuration.  Contact Technical Support for more information, particularly regarding the additional TSCO administration overhead, related to that change.

On the TSCO Gateway Server Linux console it is possible to get a 1 minute processing interval if you make custom modifications to the $BEST1_HOME/bgs/bin/best1manager.awk script.

To do that you can comment out the Visualizer minimum interval check in the best1manager.awk. So, change this:

Where each line has been commented out with a pound sign (#).

Note that the exact line number of the change may be different for different releases of the TSCO Gateway Manager but the section to be commented out is the same in each release.

Processing data with a 1 minute interval is not a tested or supported configuration and there may be graphing problems in Visualizer. But, if the graphics problems aren't a problem for you the data processing should work and Visualizer should basically work.
 
NOTE: If you apply a console patch set which includes a best1manager.awk update, this change will be undone and you'll need to edit the file again and comment out this section of code.
 
NOTE: This change to the best1manager.awk file will not cause any problems with the Manager runs that are not using an interval larger than 1 minute.
