How do you enable debug logging for internal server plugins such as webservices and server admin in Remedy 9.x? |
This knowledge article may contain information that does not apply to version 21.05 or later which runs in a container environment. Please refer to Article Number 000385088 for more information about troubleshooting BMC products in containers. In Remedy 9.x a number of plugins such as Server Admin and Webservices are loaded as part of the server itself and not by a plugin server. This KA details how to enable debug logging for these plugins. To enable the debug logging for the Java plugins please check the article below: Remedy - Server - v.9.x How to enable DEBUG Java Plugin Server Logging in AR System To enable debug logging of internal plugins a change needs to be made to the logback_server.xml file found in the ARSystem/conf directory. This file contains settings for many server logging options but the relevant section is below. 1- Open the file using a text editor and find this section: <logger name="com.bmc.arsys.server.logger.InternalPluginLogger"
level="error" additivity="false"> <appender-ref ref="InternalPluginLog" /> </logger> 2- Change the level from error to debug so that it looks like this: <logger name="com.bmc.arsys.server.logger.InternalPluginLogger"
level="debug" additivity="false"> <appender-ref ref="InternalPluginLog" /> </logger> 3- Save the file. 4- Since this log requires to capture the thread logging, enable also the Thread log in the Server Information form. a) Go to Applications > AR System Administration > AR System Administration Console b) Select System > General > Server Information c) In the Server Information form select the Log Files tab. Enable the Thread log and press Apply. 5- There are two ways to make the change effective: a) Open again the Server Information form (it may already be opened after having performed the above step 4). If not, go to Applications > AR System Administration > AR System Administration Console and select System > General > Server Information Open the Log Files tab. Check the Reload Log Conf File checkbox and click the Apply button. This will cause the server to read the updated logback_server.xml file. b) or restart ARSystem. The activity from the internal plugins will now be logged in the ...db/arinternalplugin.log file. To disable the debug logging change the level back to error and use either of the options above.
