When installing Microsoft Windows Patches on a target server using BMC Truesight Server Automation (TSSA/BSA) an error message such as the following is often encountered in the bldeploy log file:

• Command returned non-zero exit code: -2145124329
• Exit -2145124329
• In RunProcess: exitCode = -2145124329

The error code above will vary and -2145124329 is just an example in this case.

What does the specific error code which appears in these log messages mean?

The error code displayed in these log messages are Microsoft Windows Update error codes displayed in Decimal Format.

In order to effectively search for the meaning of these error codes, they must first be converted to Hexadecimal format.

For example, error code  -2145124329 converts to 0x80240017 in Hexadecimal format.

Once the Hexadecimal error code has been determined, search the Microsoft Windows Update Error Code List

and Windows Update error codes by component

In this example, the 0x80240017 error code is described as:
 

0x80240017 WU_E_NOT_APPLICABLE Operation was not performed because there are no applicable updates.
