After deploying a new Discovery appliance, user can not login to the command line using the "tideway" user. The login fails with "Access Denied" when using SSH / putty. During a migration to a new O/S such as CentOS 7, a new appliance is set up, so the problem may be seen in these cases also. |
If the tideway user's new password was set from the VMWare / ESX console, be aware that the default keyboard layout is UK. As a result, if there are special characters in the password, they may not be the same as the characters on the US keyboard. If so, do this: 1) Login from the VMWare / ESX console again as tideway user. 2) Use the "passwd" command to change the password to something simple with no special characters. 3) Change the keyboard layout to US with this command: loadkeys us 4) Make the change to keyboard layout permanent following the instructions here: https://docs.bmc.com/docs/discovery/2105/localizing-the-appliance-1002900267.html 5) Change the password again (with US keyboard) using "passwd". This time, special characters can be used. As an alternative: Lookup (on Google) how to translate the special characters from the UK keyboard to the US keyboard, and login with the translated password in a putty session. Then change the password with "passwd". |
